Starved Rock State Park, Illinois (Looking West) - Postcard, c. 1940s
(5 1/2 x 3 1/2 In) This is an original vintage E. A. Bishop, Curteich linen postcard from the 1940s. It shows a view looking West from the top of Starved Rock, 200 ft. above the river at Starved Rock State Park, Illinois.
"STARVED ROCK, ILLINOIS STATE PARK, Contains about 1,000 acres, located in La Salle Co. Located on the curving shores of the Illinois River and not far from the main west entrance to this Park is the famous STARVED ROCK. A view from the top is most inspiring; the flat summit is about one-half an acre in area, and covered with forest trees and bushes. Altho it is nearly 200 feet in height, the steep cliffs are now easy to ascend; for enterprise has girded its almost perpendicular sides with stairs and bridges of iron. Here every evening hundreds of tourists view the ever changing scenes painted by the hand of Nature, as the golden sun drifts among the clouds, reflecting upon the water a panorama of wonderous beauty.", reads the description printed on the back.
The postcard is unused and is in VERY GOOD condition, light wear at the edges, blunted corner tips.
