The Penitent Mary Magdalene - Pompeo Batoni - Postcard, c. 1900s
(5 1/2 x 3 1/2 In) This is an original antique Stengel & Co. postcard from the 1900s. It shows a reproduction of The Penitent Mary Magdalene, "Die Bussende Magdelena" painted by Pompeo Girolamo Batoni. The original formerly in the picture gallery in Dresden, was a war loss in the bombing raid of February 13, 1945.
"Pompeo Girolamo Batoni - Born 25 Jan. 1708 at Lucca, died 4 Feb. 1787 at Rome. Formed in Rome through the study of the old masters. Tatig highly respected in Rome." reads the translated description printed on the back.
The postcard is unused and is in EXCELLENT condition, light wear at the edges, a few small specks of image loss, pencil marks on the back.
