The Dead Christ- 1900s Antique Postcards- SET of 5- Jesus and Mary Magdalene- Religious Art- Passion Play- Crown of Thorns- Unused
(5 1/2 x 3 1/2 In) This is a SET of FIVE original antique postcards from the 1900s. They each depict a scene from the Passion of Jesus Christ: his trial, suffering and death.
"THE DEAD CHRIST. -- The lament of Mary over the dead body of Jesus as depicted in "The Passion Play", has moved thousands to sympathetic tears."
"JESUS BOUND TO A COLUMN. -- After the scourging and the crowning Jesus was bound to a column where He stood in pain and silent helplessness."
"THE THORN CROWNED KING. -- In further mockery of Jesus a reed was placed in HIS hand as a scepter. This feeble symbol of His power was a final act of contempt."
"MARY MAGDALENE. -- Second only to Mary, the mother of Jesus, in interest, is the part taken in the drama by Mary Magdalene, who in her sorrow, returns to the tomb of Jesus and is first of all to meet Him when He rises."
"CHRIST IN THE ARMS OF MARY. -- The scene at the foot of the cross, where Mary receives the dead body of her son, and Mary Magdalene sits with her to his home, stands near, is one of the most touching in the Passion drama."
The postcards are unused and are in GOOD condition, wear at the edges, blunted corner tips, some have small creases and stains.
