Knee Surgery of T. E. Frost - Victorian X-ray Showing 22 Bullet - Dec. 21, 1896 - Operating Room -SET of 3 - Cabinet Photos
(5 3/4 x 4 3/4 In) and (8 1/2 x 5 1/8 In) This is a SET of THREE original antique cabinet photographs from the 1890s. The most exiting part of this collection is an original 1896 X-Ray of a man's knee, identified in writing on the back as, "Knee of T. E. Frost of E. Grand Forks - showing 22 bullet in capsule of right knee joint. Exposure 22 minutes - Dec. 21, 1896". That's just one year after Radiography was invented. The doctor that took the X-ray is partially identified in writing on the front, "Taken by Dr. Aurthur Ays___" the rest of the name is missing along with the corner tip. The other two images which I assume are the same man show a fellow laid out on the operating table with his knee prepped for surgery and recovering in his hospital bed after surgery with his knee propped up.
The photos are in GOOD to FAIR condition, wear at the edges, blunted corner tips, chips at the edges, general wear and stains, X-RAY is cracked in two pieces, is missing corners and has general scuffs, damage and stains on the front.
