Old Hot Shot Furnace - Fort Morgan, AL - Postcard, c. 1930s

(5 1/2 x 3 1/2 In) This is an original vintage Carter's News Agency, C. T. Art-Colortone linen postcard from the 1930s. It shows a view of the Old Hot Shot Furnace at Fort Morgan, Alabama. By Hatchet Chandler.

"This is the old Hot Shot Furnace at Fort Morgan, Alabama which was used to heat cannon balls red hot for the purpose of sinking enemy's ships before the day of high explosives. It repulsed an attack by British warships in 1814, sinking the Flagship "HERMES". It was installed under James Simon Bernard, who had experience with hot shot furnaces under Napoleon. It rests in the middle of the little original Fort built by the Spanish in the middle 16th century with ten old gun mounts still intact. The oldest Fort in America.", reads the description printed on the back. 

The postcard is unused and is in EXCELLENT condition, light wear at the edges.
