Smallest Airport in the World - Santa Catalina Island, California - SET of 2 - Postcards, c. 1940s

$6.50

(5 1/2 x 3 1/2 In) This is a SET of TWO original vintage Longshaw Card Co. postcards from the 1940s. They each show a view of Santa Catalina Island, California, "Smallest Airport and Largest Landing Field (The Pacific) in the world" and "Mountains Meet The Blue Pacific". From Kodachrome by Jusmet.

"Santa Catalina Island (Volcanic Origin) is believed to have been once part of the mainland, and at various times had been submerged and elevated similar to the whole coast of California. The average height of the island is 1500 feet, except at the Isthmus, which is only 20 feet above sea level."

"In olden days it often took the indians ten days to travel from Catalina Island to San Gabriel Mission by canoe and oxcart. The same trip may now be made today by plane and automobile in two hours."

The postcards are unused and are in VERY GOOD condition, wear at the edges, blunted corner tips.
