McKinley Memorial Service - Turner Hall, Washington, MO - Cabinet Photo, c. 1901

(6 3/8 x 5 3/8 In) This is an original antique cabinet photograph from 1901. It shows an interior view of "Turner's Hall" in Washington, MO as it looked for assassinated President William McKinley's Memorial Service. Black Crepe or Mourning Bunting and palm fronds decorate the stage, American flags furled up to show national mourning line the room and portraits of the previously assassinated presidents Lincoln and Garfield can be seen on either side of the stage. "Turner's Hall, Washington, MO. - McKinley Memorial Service 1901", is written on the back.

Gymnastic rings can be seen hanging from the ceiling, hinting at the original purpose of the hall. Located at 310 Jefferson Street, It was Home of the Washington Turner society from 1866 until 1932. For more than half-century it was the center of of gymnastic, social, and dramatic activities of German immigrants. It was sold to the Elks Club, in 1932.

The photo is in VERY GOOD condition, wear at the edges blunted corner tips, a few minor creases and scratches.
