Pilgrim Memorial Monument - Provincetown, MA - Postcard, c. 1920s
(3 1/2 x 5 1/2 In) This is an original antique New Bedford News Co. postcard from the 1920s. It shows a view of the Pilgrim Memorial Monument tower in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
"The Pilgrim Memorial Monument which stands upon Town Hill, Provincetown, Mass., and which is a landmark for many miles around, is erected to commemorate the landing of the Pilgrims at Cape Cod Nov. 11th, 1620, their anchoring in this harbor, the adoption in the cabin of the Mayflower, on the day of the arrival, of the Compact of the Government, the first chapter of a democratic government in the world's in the world's history; the birth here of Peregrine White, the first white child born in New England; the death of Dorothy Bradford, the wife of Wm. Bradford, afterward Governor of Plymouth; the explorations in search of a place for permanent colonizations; and the entire train of events which preceded the settlement of Plymouth.", reads the description printed on the back.
The postcard is used and is in VERY GOOD condition, wear at the edges, blunted corner tips.
