Dead Sea in Mammoth Cave, Kentucky - Postcard, c. 1940s
(5 1/2 x 3 1/2 In) This is an original vintage National Park Concessions, Inc., C. T. Art-Colortone linen postcard from the 1940s. It shows a view of the "Dead Sea" in Mammoth Cave, Kentucky.
"As far back as 1880 in a book on Mammoth Cave, Prof. J. Hoyes Panton said in describing its size: "Here we see 223 avenues, 150 miles of which have been explored, 47 domes, one 300 ft. high, 23 pits, one 175 ft. deep, 8 cataracts, 3 rivers, 2 lakes and one sea." More than as much again has been explored since that date.", reads the description printed on the back.
The postcard is unused and is in VERY GOOD condition, wear at the edges, blunted corner tips.
