Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago - SET of 2 - Postcards, c. 1940s
(5 1/2 x 3 1/2 In) This is a SET of TWO original vintage postcards from the 1940s. Each shows a view from the Chicago Natural History Museum (Formerly Field Museum), the "Skeleton of Right Whale - Hall 19" and the "South End of Stanley Field Hall".
"SKELETON OF RIGHT WHALE - Hall 19 - The right whale reaches a length of 60 feet. It has an enormous head and great jaws between which is suspended the "whalebone", a mass of horny plates which serves as a strainer for this whale's food of small crustacea. Its forelimbs are paddle-like, and its hindlimbs are reduced to a pair of small vestigial bones."
"SOUTH END OF STANLEY FIELD HALL - The great central hall of the Museum is 299 feet long, 68 feet wide, and 75 feet high. It was named by the Board of Trustees in honor of Stanley Field, President of the Museum since 1909."
The postcards are in VERY GOOD condition, one used the other not, both have wear at the edges, blunted corner tips, general wear and light stains.
