Pair of Trained Zebras - Ringling Bros. Circus Menagerie - Postcard, c. 1900s
(5 1/2 x 3 1/2 In) This is an original antique Evening Wisconsin Printing Co. postcard from the 1900s. It shows a pair of trained Zebras in the Menagerie at Ringling Brothers Circus World's Greatest Shows.
"PAIR OF ZEBRAS. The Zebra is another animal never found outside of Africa except in captivity. It often has been semi-domesticated, but never has been made generally useful, and a domestic race of Zebras seems impracticable. The habits of Zebras are much like those of wild asses or wild horses. The use of Zebra hides for making leather and ornamental rugs has stimulated hunters and the Zebra is growing very scarce.", reads the description printed on the back.
"Genesee, Ills. - Jan. 1, 1909. Sister Augusta I will write and let you know that Manda phoned - that baby is well today. She told me to let you know. Well it was a nice New Years day. Hope yous enjoyed it. F. H.", reads the note written on the back.
The postcard is used and is in GOOD condition, wear at the edges, blunted corner tips, some stains on the back side.
